The Equity & Mentoring workgroup is proud to present our speaker series, led by engaging and informative experts across Southern Arizona. Speakers will answer any of the following questions:
- What work are you doing on campus around mentoring and equity?
- Can you share how your research helps women at the university?
- Can you provide any insight related to mentoring across differences, with concerns to gender, and/or minoritized identities?

Speaker: Dr. Rebecca Tsosie
Mentoring and the Art of Well-Being: Creating Communities of Care for Students and Faculty Members
Rebecca Tsosie is a Regents Professor and Morris K. Udall Professor of Law at the University of Arizona and she has served as Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence at both the University of Arizona and Arizona State University. In this presentation, she will focus on the connection between well-being and mentoring practices for faculty and students on campus and within professional development settings. Her current research involves wellness practices within institutions of higher education, as well as the legal profession. In combination with her experiences in leadership, she will discuss this research and suggest practices that can foster a sense of connection, belonging and resilience among faculty and students.

Speaker: Dr. Andrea Romero
Getting the Most Out of Mentoring Moments
Dr. Andrea Romero is the executive leader for the MENTOR (Mentorship through Effective Networking, Transformational Opportunities, and Research) Institute. She has mentored many undergraduate and graduate students for their research, community work, and degree completion. In addition, she has been active in organizing peer mentoring for faculty. Mentoring has been a key component of her work in Faculty Affairs including faculty peer mentoring for promotion and mentoring for department heads. She will speak about how to get the most out of mentoring moments. She will talk about mentoring stories and the different types of mentors that you may need in your mentoring universe.

Speakers: Dr. Allie Min & Dr. Mari Ricker
The Art of Strategic Self-Promotion: Owning Your Story
Dr. Min is a Professor and Co-Director of the School of Health Professions, MEZCOPH. Dr. Ricker is a Professor and Director of the Integrative Medicine in Residency program, AWCIM. She is also the Associate Director of the 3yr-MD Primary Care Accelerated Medical Pathway (PCAMP), COM-T. Utilizing their experiences and passion in mentoring, they will emphasize the importance of telling a story to highlight one’s accomplishments. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the purpose and importance of promoting professional successes
- Describe common barriers to self-promotion and their impact on career growth
- Define the “I” statement and its role in effective self-promotion
