2007 Young Women’s Empowerment Academy

The first annual Young Women’s Empowerment Academy (YWEA) 2007 was a great success. Over 65 young women (between the ages of 12 and 16) attended their choice of three of five workshops on topics like self-esteem, nurturing a positive attitude, keeping a healthy body image and planning for college. In the afternoon laughter echoed off the walls of Wilbur’s Underground as girls learned how to play pool and taught their elders how to succeed at the “Dance-Dance-Revolution” dance pad video game.
