Welcome - Adrian A. Shelton
Adrian Shelton, doing business as Research Compliance Consulting, is a national consultant on research compliance issues and related administrative programs.
She served The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from February 2001 until late June 2007 as its research compliance officer. In this role she designed the university's institutional compliance program, including within its span of responsibilities multiple components such as the human research subjects protection program, humane animal care and use program, conflict of interest management, HIPAA compliance, scientific integrity management, several research safety and security programs and an export control compliance program. While at UNC, she also led a successful effort to reshape the State of North Carolina's position on Institutional Review Board waivers of informed consent in healthcare research.
Prior to her time in North Carolina, she spent ten years in business contracting for the University of California at Davis, advising faculty, students and staff on specialized business structures and relationships, and negotiating business contracts and educational affiliations for the campus and the university's health care system. She also has prior experience as a mediator in public sector employment contract negotiations.
Ms. Shelton has a B.A. with Honors in History from Stanford University, where she was the General Motors Scholar of her class. She has an M.S. in Industrial Relations from Iowa State University.
She and her husband, Robert, met and married as undergraduates at Stanford University. They have three adult children.
